Franciacorta at Expo Milano 2015: the programme for the six months

Maurizio Zanella, President of the Franciacorta Consortium, and Roberto Arditti, Director of Institutional Affairs for Expo 2015, presented all the upcoming collaborations with the partners who will be working alongside Franciacorta during the World Exposition, as well as a packed programme of events and initiatives to promote Franciacorta and its origins in the area of Franciacorta.

As the ‘Official Sparkling Wine’ of Expo Milano 2015, Franciacorta will have an exclusive Wine Bar on the Decumano, not far from where it intersects with the Cardo at the nerve centre of the whole site. The Wine Bar, the sole commercial undertaking with direct access to the Decumano, will be entirely run by Lanzani Bottega & Bistrot, which has worked in Italian gastronomy for years and passionately promotes Italian produce, especially from the regions of Lombardy and Brescia.

The structure is composed of a 55 m2 covered area and 150 m2 outdoor area and was designed and constructed by the Falconi architecture studio, owned by architect Gabriele Falconi, to strict sustainability criteria. Here the public will be able to try different types of Franciacorta alongside elegant produce such as Calvisius Caviar, the prestigious brand from Agro Ittica Lombarda, leading Italian company in the production and distribution of caviar. Calvisius Caviar, and its collection of uniquely tasting caviars, made from pure sturgeon species only, will be a partner of the Franciacorta Wine Bar.

The Wine Bar will offer wine from 87 cellars and 5 types of Franciacorta on rotation: Brut, Satèn, Rosé, Millesimato and Riserva. Visitors will also be able to improve their knowledge of Franciacorta wine and the area through informative videos and special lectures.

In addition, Franciacorta will also be present in the Lombardy Pavilion with the aim of promoting the bond between a wine and its origins.

Our partnership with Alitalia continues into 2015. The new collaboration will see customised uniforms on an intercontinental aeroplane (B777/A330) to match the concept of the ‘Italian Excellence’ advertising campaign. Just like last year, a limited edition of Franciacorta has been created especially and will be served in ‘Magnifica’, Alitalia’s business class. A detailed description of every Franciacorta product served in the Magnifica class will be included in the wine list of every intercontinental flight.

Another agreement has been signed with Slow Food for Expo 2015, which will see the inclusion of Franciacorta in a dedicated Slow Food area at Expo. And a commitment that has especially defined our collaboration with Slow Food in recent years continues with the ‘Cene dell’Alleanza’, a large network where Italian chefs meet Slow Food producers to make agreements to cook and promote their products; the inclusion of Franciacorta at the Wine Bar is still planned as part of the Master of Food courses at the Slow Food demonstrations (Slow Fish, Cheese and Salone del Gusto) and finally Franciacorta will host the Global Slow Food Convention that will be held in June this year.

The National Chamber of Italian Fashion will be present alongside Franciacorta at this exceptionally important international event, to confirm the close relationship Franciacorta has with the fashion world. The National Chamber of Italian Fashion will sponsor the fashion events that will be held in Franciacorta, as well as offering Franciacorta during the most important moments of Expo 2015.

The Franciacorta Consortium has stipulated an agreement with Made in Uvet, the upcoming brand from the Uvet Group, which will offer nature, food & wine and art history packages. The tours of the area will include visits to the Franciacorta cellars and wine-tasting that will provide insight into our production methods. The tour will start with a visit to the vineyards and end with wine-tasting in our cellars. Furthermore, visitors will be able to admire the beauty of our territory with guided excursions to our abbeys and monasteries, Lake Iseo and along our walking and cycling trails. All these packages, in conjunction with Expo tickets, are available online at

In keeping with the ‘fashion&lifestyle’ position during the six months of Expo Milano 2015, Franciacorta has established a collaboration with Fratelli Rossetti, the famous footwear and accessories brand and a symbol of Made in Italy. Every Tuesday night between May and October, it will hold Tuesday Tasting Night, an aperitif with wine-tasting at the Milan boutique in Via Montenapoleone 1 on the corner of Corso Matteotti. The events will be led by an AIS sommelier and the wine-tasting will focus on a different type of Franciacorta for each of the six months.

Each month of the six months of the Universal Exposition, Franciacorta will focus on an Italian excellence that is symbolically representative of Made in Italy: from music to food and wine, from the traditional region of Franciacorta to fashion and of course tourism in the area.

8 – 29 May 2015

The Note di Franciacorta Festival came about in collaboration with LeXGiornate, an association that has organised prestigious musical events for some years now. The 2015 programme includes seven events that will take place in the Franciacorta estates and cellars and will star well-known guests from the national and international scene. The Festival will begin on 8 May with the recital ‘La Meravigliosa avventura del Tango’ featuring Luis Enriquez Bacalov on the piano and the voice of Anna Maria Castelli. The musical and artistic programme will include both musical and cultural events and musical theatre shows.

13 - 14 June 2015

This will be a weekend-long event during which tourists can visit the Franciacorta area, where the Eat Local and Drink Franciacorta festival will be in full swing. It is an original initiative to explore Franciacorta wine and the Franciacorta area through its traditional local produce. The two-day event will conclude with a big event at the Palazzo Monti della Corte, a prestigious and symbolic location for celebration of the excellence of this territory. And it is here that the street food theme will continue on Sunday with picnics, brunch, BBQ areas and Food Trucks offering street food with local produce paired with Franciacorta.

19 - 20 September 2015 and Aspettando il Festival

In September, after the strenuous grape harvest, the area will be bracing itself to welcome wine enthusiasts. This year, thanks to Expo Milano 2015, it will benefit from a large number of foreign visitors that will guarantee international visibility for the event.

The Festival will take place over Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September, which will probably be the busiest moment of the Universal Exposition. Over sixty Franciacorta Cellars will be involved, holding numerous events linked to themes of food and wine, culture and art as well as the themes and values that underpin Expo Milano 2015 itself. In the week before the Festival, the participating cellars will organise happy hours, wine-tasting and dinners with Franciacorta in many venues in Milan and the surrounding area. It is an initiative organised to generate increasing interest not only among wine enthusiasts but curious visitors and potential consumers.
