Passion, winemaking experience and innovation in this triangle is contained the big adventure of Marchesi Antinori in Franciacorta, here in fact the Family is producing her Franciacorta called Montenisa, that in the mythology was the mountain loved by Bacchus the god of wine.
In 1999 the history of the Marchesi Antinori entwined with that of the Conti Maggi, when the two families decided to run the lands and vineyards surrounding the Villa together and produce the best Italian brut wine. Montenisa estate is a plan of Albiera Allegra and Alessia Antinori , the three daughters of Marchese Piero Antinori, that put theirs names, “the three A,” on the Montenisa’s bottles.
The estate
Situated to the south of the lake of Iseo, in one of the most geo-climatically favourable winemaking areas in the whole region, and consists of 60 hectares of vineyards and an old group of buildings which are now the cellars. The most important of these is “Palazzetto Maggi”,built in the 16th century and frescoed by Brescian painter Lattanzio Gambara. The little church of Santo Stefano perched on the hill of the same name overlooking the town, also belongs to the property.
The estate’s oldest vineyards are situated on the hill of Santo Stefano and their distinctive intensely fragrant grapes give the wine body and balance. The most recently planted vineyards situated in a plot of land surrounded by a wall, locally known as “brolo” were created in order to grow great grapes for a great wine. Thanks to careful selection of the variety, applications of strict regulations for the protection of the environment and above all, vineyard management which aims for low yelds, the vineyards of Montenisa estate are today one of the jewels in the Antinori family’s crown.
