Le Marchesine, a small Franciacorta winery, is one of the most prestigious wine estates of the Lombardy area. It was the year 1985 when Giovanni Biatta, the founder of Le Marchesine, bought the first three hectares in the Franciacorta region. Nevertheless, the family has been devoted to one great passion for five generations: the excellence of wine. The vineyards and cellars are now managed by Loris Biatta. The estate has now 47 hectares of vineyards, producing Doc and Docg wines.
From the beginning Le Marchesine has distinguished itself by an innovative vineyard management system, abandoning the pergola training system, and importing advanced techniques from France. At the moment the production has reached about 450 thousand bottles per year, of which 230 thousand are Franciacorta Brut and Extra Brut, 40 thousand Vintage Rosé, 40 thousand Franciacorta Satèn, 15 thousand Curtefranca Bianco and 15 thousand Curtefranca Rosso, in addition to 30 thousand Vintage only in eccellent vintages, besides 10 thousand bottles of the Vintage single vineyard wine Secolo Novo.
Several are the winery’s strengths: an accurate selection of the best seedlings, and continuous technological innovation. Moreover, the winery boasts an ultra decennial relationship with the Oenological Institute of Champagne.
The diamond point for Le Marchesine is Secolo Novo, a jewel produced only in great vintages. The grapes employed to produce Secolo Novo come from the most precious and historical area for Franciacorta grapes, the vineyard located on the La Santissima hill.
Several awards have rewarded this constant search for excellence: the Secolo Novo 2005 has been awarded the 5 Grapes by the Duemila Vini guide by AIS and the Three Glasses Plus by the Wines of Italy guide by Gambero Rosso, which has also awarded to it the prize Sparkling Wine of the Year 2011. The Franciacorta Brut Blanc de Blancs 2005 has obtained the silver Rosa Camuna for excellence by the Viniplus 2011 guide.
