Villa, a medieval hamlet in the heart of Franciacorta, was fought over for centuries because of the quality of its wines.

And the story continues: In 1960 Alessandro Bianchi purchased Villa, whose buildings date to the XVI century, and the hundred hectares of land surrounding it. The estate was very different then. Indeed, winemaking was limited to the fifteenth century cellar, while the primary crops were wheat and grain.

From the time Franciacorta began to take an interest in bubbly, Alessandro Bianchi was one of the leaders, passionately supporting this new winemaking trend, and towards the end of the 1970s he was one of the first to adopt the new production methods. At the same time he began to make the first changes to the estate, abandoning mixed farming in favor of winemaking. In a short time quality and excellence became Villa's goal.

In 1978 the Bianchi family also began to restore the hamlet of Villa, which, in the decades since then, has regained its ancient splendor. The enlargement of the cellars, now entirely below ground; the restoration of the breathtaking manor home; the restructuring of the two rural burgs, whose homes are built around two ample courtyards, and now host an enchanting “agriturismo”, offer both a rare example of a village belonging entirely to a single family, and make Villa one of the most interesting and important places in all of Franciacorta.

The heart and passion of the Bianchi family, Villa's cellars are a monument to the ancient traditions of the Metodo Franciacorta. In the inspiring tunnels dug into the Colle Madonna Della Rosa, time, silence, low temperatures, and darkness are essential elements in the recipe that makes it possible to bring excellent bollicine to the world. Since the 1960s, the Azienda Villa has tirelessly worked, and dug: The cellars can now hold more than 750,000 bottles of Franciacorta DOCG under perfect constant cool temperatures, thanks to thermal inertia one finds below ground, in religious silence, and in almost total darkness. The bottles first rest in bins, and then in pupitres, where they undergo remuage by hand, according to ancient tradition. In the XIV century cellars adjacent to the halls where the bollicine age, there are modern stainless steel tanks, medium-sized oak casks, and many small oak barrels in which Villa's great crus age.
